massage therapy

Massage therapy is one of the oldest and simplest forms of health care, with its roots dating back thousands of years ago. Since ancient times therapeutic bodywork modalities were used as treatments for a variety of ailments and conditions. Not only did it have analgesic (pain relieving) effects, it served as a method of addressing the primordial cause of both musculoskeletal and visceral disfunction. Today, massage is still used for a for a variety of intentions, including: promoting circulatory function, improving posture, skeletal re-alignment, boosting the immune system, flushing toxins, lymphatic drainage, promoting digestive metabolism, supporting injury repair and remodeling, decreasing both acute and chronic pain, and last but not least, alleviating stress!

Furthermore, bioenergetic modalities of bodywork go a step further to address the mental and emotional aspects of our being. The daily stressors of life often take a toll on the mind and spirit. This may leave individuals prone to feelings of depression, anxiety, dissatisfaction, and fatigue. These emotions can take physical form and manifest themselves as actual physical discomforts or “dis-eases”. By working with energetic channels, physical reflex points, chakras, and meridians, it is possible to foster a sense of body awareness, release blocked energy, and balance out the system. This way, it is possible to address the entire individual and work with the cause of disfunction, rather than simply focusing on alleviating symptoms.

Here at emerge, our therapists offer a variety of modalities that they integrate to provide sessions catered to your individual needs & requests.

For many the simple wear and tare of life may lead to chronic restrictions + accidents may result in conditions requiring specific therapeutic care. These sessions focus on specific body parts using myofascial and connective tissue techniques combined with active stretching & essential oil therapy to provide pain management while facilitating healing: increasing range of motion & working through restrictions, bringing the body back to balance.
Pre + Postnatal sessions share many of the goals of regular massage: to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation , increase mobility, and just make you feel good. Specifically targeting areas of extra “intensity”, like the low back, this treatment is great for an expectant or new mother feel some relief in the midst of their changing bodies. Special props are available for pregnant women to lay on their backs, sides, and bellies safely, with complete comfort & support.
While the physical body is often the 1st place we notice in moments of imbalance, true optimal health can only be experienced when the whole being is addressed in a complete & comprehensive fashion. Human nature urges us to treat “symptoms,” looking for a quick fix to our aches, pains & other discomforts. However addressing the mind & subtle energy that gives us life force, is often the most lasting approach to facilitate freedom in our bodies, creating an experience of balance and ease.

Bodywork add-ons:

Based on traditional Chinese medicine, Ashiatsu, meaning ‘foot pressure’ involves a therapist rhythmically stroking pressure points on the body using their feet. The therapist will walk on your back using overhead bars for balance and support, varying pressure to your comfort. Great for added pressure + deep release.
Performed fully clothed on a floor mat, thai massage includes a sophisticated sequence of deep rhythmic acupressure to muscles and energy lines during assisted stretches and yoga poses. This integrated approach stimulates the body’s natural healing ability by unblocking the flow of energy providing a complete release of the body, mind & soul.
Also known as sound assisted soft tissue mobilization, this technique uses specially designed tools rubbed into the skin to break up scar tissue. Back pain and other muscle strains, ligaments and tendon problems, are just a few of the conditions that can benefit from this treatment.
During this luxurious & relaxing session, hot basalt volcanic rock stones are used to create an experience of deep release. The heat expands blood vessels to relax your muscles, while the therapist combines massage with the stones & some traditional techniques to ease tension, allowing you to melt into bliss!
